Strong civic participation helps communities become healthier, more connected, and better informed. Yet participation in many community activities across England has declined over the past decade, with recent data showing little recovery to pre-pandemic levels.

Monthly formal volunteering fell from 27% in 2013/14 to 17% in 2024/25 — still well below the 23% pre-pandemic level.
Only 24% of adults feel they can influence decisions in their local area.
Many local consultations receive less than 1–2% resident participation.

PointLabs Ltd is a technology company focused on building digital platforms that improve participation, coordination, and real-world engagement.
PointLabs Ltd is a technology studio that develops digital platforms solving real-world participation and coordination challenges. We build SaaS platforms across civic technology, community systems, and digital coordination tools.
We believe that the most important technology problems to solve are not just technical — they are social. Our platforms are designed to strengthen the fabric of communities by making participation visible, measurable, and rewarding.
From local councils to community organisations, we partner with institutions that share our conviction: that technology, when engineered thoughtfully, can create real-world impact.
TownPoints was inspired by founder Olayinka Oyedeji's experience studying the UK's Life in the UK course, which highlights the important role of civic participation in community life.
The course explores how libraries, volunteering, heritage activities, and community institutions shape national identity and social cohesion. Yet participation in many of these activities continues to decline across the UK.
TownPoints was created to explore a simple idea:
"People are more likely to engage when civic participation becomes visible, measurable, and rewarding."
The platform aims to help councils strengthen community engagement while helping residents feel more connected to where they live.
Every decision is measured against one question: does this create real-world impact for communities?
We build on data, research, and the lived experience of communities — not assumptions.
We design with communities, not just for them — ensuring our platforms reflect real needs.
Our platforms are built to scale — from a single council to nationwide deployment.
Whether you're a council exploring TownPoints, a potential partner, or interested in joining our team — we'd love to hear from you.
